This is my 250th post on Medium. My first post was on October 1st, 2013.

Over the years, I’ve occasionally deleted posts, because internet writing can and will be used against you in the court of public/professional opinion. But there are 250 things here I’m reasonably happy I published on the internet.

Like an Oscars speech, I keep thinking of things I want to say here. But then I erase what I have down, because I don’t really enjoy posts that sound like press releases. So I’ll say this.

Medium is changing, and at this point in my career, it’s difficult to justify posting anything here anymore. In fact, on my 200th post, since deleted, I said I would not be writing any more on Medium. Then I ate those words and wrote 50 more posts.

Why did I do that? I think what I realized is that I’m writing for a small but dedicated following. Those who continuously express their appreciation for whatever it is I have to say, on as varied subjects as I have to say them.

In a world where the inner voice gets increasingly quieted the further one pushes into adulthood, it is liberating that people, whoever they are, are out there listening. When Medium first introduced followers, I had maybe 500? Now I have 21,000. That’s a lot of listeners.

And when you consider that I’m writing about things like weekends in Vermont, trips to the Met, throwing my phone away, it does reassure you that even the most random things can find their place online. These aren’t topics tailor-made to break the internet; they’re more like episodes of Seinfeld.

Basically, I just want to say that I’m really thankful for everyone who continues to read, share and support whatever I’m doing here. And even if you’ve had negative comments and hate me, I’d like to thank you for that, too.

Hopefully you continue reading as Medium continues transitioning into more of a platform than a publisher, and people like myself do battle with the big boys for space in your feed. Something tells me I’m not going to have too many problems with that, and it’s all because of you.

Thank you.
