Are Blogs Still A Thing?

I woke up today thinking about starting a blog, a blog about something very personal, something I’m going through, wondering — wouldn’t other people relate to this?

I mean, it’s such a common thing, what this blog would be about, but yeah, it is really private and that privacy is what would make it great, but…

Can you still write like that online? Can you still document your own life? I don’t know. It seems like that conversation has moved to Instagram. Post a photo, a status update, some harmless little thing— it’s not especially interesting, this content, but that’s what blogging turned into.

And the internet proper is much less innocent than it once was. Not that it ever really was — but it’s super vicious these days. People have thrown all caution to the wind, anything is ammunition for outage. Anger the most random person and they will take a little thing you wrote and turn it into a manifesto about your character.

So, I’m on the fence. I know this thing would make for great material, and I think people would relate, but you get older and the internet matures too, becomes this unpredictable beast (not that it was ever really predictable), and you wonder whether it’s even worth the effort.

Maybe it’s better to just keep a diary.
